Head Wound Harry's

There is no world in which I would evre be considered graceful and unfortunately that pesky apple hasn't fallen far from this tree..

In the past 24 hours we have endured 4 head wounds. No blood or stitches, nothing that could be considered major head trauma but shots to the head nonetheless.

The Munchkin, Grace numero uno.. Was upstairs playing "quietly" while her sisters napped. After a quick bathroom break she headed back up the stairs and ran smack into her doorknob, the lock catching her on her left eyebrow, the saddest part was that she knew that because her sisters were sleeping she couldn't make a rukus, so after hearing the thud (that sounded like she ran into it and it promptly knocked her on her ass) she came down crying silently, but obviously in pain. Me? I felt like an ass for making a big deal about her being mute during naptime.

Tonight while she was doing lord knows what in the bathroom for 20 minutes, I finally got tired of hearing "I'm coming, right now" only to have her never open the door. I finally went in after her and didn't know she was standing right behind the door, the doorknob caught her in the head again, the lock catching her forehead. I'm beginning to understand that being the same height as a doorknob must suck.

"Mary Kate" after waking up with a black eye from naptime a couple of weeks ago, has followed closely in the Munchkin's footsteps, only she likes to spice it up a little, not settling for doing the same thing twice. Yesterday while eating, she turned around backwards and flipped right out of her chair onto her head. Tonight, while walking across the dining room floor (which appears to be level) she fell over, I can't describe the move because I don't think it's ever been done before. I should trademark it, really. I literally watched her trip over a flat surface, do some crazy twist and land directly on her face. Her forehead taking the brunt of the incident.

My poor children. Battered and bruised without a chance in the world at ever being swan like, and to no fault of their own.

Bless their little hearts.

My New Thing.

Week 7 of our 52 New Things Challenge, and Boy, did I challenge myself this week. As you read in my last post, I broke up with my gym, which is not good for getting in shape, especially when the only free thing to do is run and I don't run... Here's what I'm doing instead....

I started P90X. I've been determined to get in shape and because the girls dislike going to the gym so much I actually cancelled my membership, leaving me gymless. I had to come up with another way to workout. I bought the DVDs and they are kicking my butt. I love it. I love being able to work out at home on my own time. I'm 5 days into the 90 day program, and can't wait to see the results.

Breaking Up is... Not really all that Hard.

I've decided to quit the gym. I love Gold's, they have been good to me. They are clean, have a movie room, great spin classes, close to where I live and for the most part a clean nursery for the kids. No nursery will ever meet my standards, so as far as nurseries goes, this one was about as good as it's going to get.

My Problem? My children. I thought having the Munchkin in school 3 days a week would be great, drop her off and hit the gym, but as we know there are always things going on that get in the way of that perfect plan. So on the days that I do manage to work out the time and get there for a class, or some much needed time on the treadmill, guess who gets pissed off in the nursery? The twins hate it there, with or without the Munchkin, they hate it. I get called out of class or paged over the intercom, it's a lot of getting ready to workout to only get in 20 minutes worth of actual working out.

It was paining me to see that $70 come out of my account each month, so I've decided no more. I called last week to find out what hoops I was going to have to jump through, left a message and fully expected to make several more calls before getting my request to quit filled. To my surprise, they called back the next morning, told me I had fulfilled my contract and then some, said I needed to send a letter and my last draft would be March 1st. Done and Done. They were sorry to see me go and yada yada...

I was shocked that I didn't even have to threaten legal action, sadly that has been my experience with all other gym memberships. It's kind of like buying a car, you just know you're gonna get screwed, but you do it anyway. It's just really nice to walk away having had a good experience and knowing that when the time comes to re-join a gym, they will be the first one I call.

Creepy. It's the Word of the Day.

I could have titled this Wordless Wednesday but seriously, how can I not have words for this? Please, Oh please, one of my Twi-Hards, please order this... Please.

Not Team Edward? Never fear... Team Jacob is here...I'm guessing this is more like Team 3-way, but whatev's...

Unfortunately these "Manillows" are completely sold out, but if you're into these types of "relationships" you need help you can find them here.

I'm sorry, all I can think about is how it's a good start to this.

This will end badly.

A Year Without Walmart.

I decided back in January that I was giving up WalMart. Not so much as a resolution, but more of a moral stand.

I've always had trouble supporting WalMart, I did it, but knowing the way that they conduct their business made me feel bad about it. I even worked for a Mom and Pop that had to constantly have our prices compared to them. It wasn't a fun sales call to make, especially when they started offering delivery, delivery and personal service was the only edge I had, as we all know they beat their suppliers down so much their pricing beats most.

My sister and her Husband became so frustrated with them over a year ago, that they quit them cold turkey. After I saw a recent documentary, The New Age of WalMart, I decided that I was quitting cold turkey, too. I don't think that was the message that the documentary meant to send, but there was just something about that unmarked van driving through neighborhoods looking for their next Mom and Pop victim that made me decide it was time to stop supporting this Big Box Retailer.

I make this sound like a sacrifice when really, I haven't shopped there much since we moved to this area of town over 3 years ago. The one closest to me is a shithole and if I'm going to drive I would rather go to Target. I did some price comparisons, and on average, they are about 4% cheaper than Publix (where I shop) but if you factor in the Publix BOGO deals, Publix items are about 40% cheaper than WalMart - factor in the time and resources it would take me to drive to a clean store and then what's 4%?

So, I'm about 6 weeks into this new endeavor and I can say that I don't miss it at all. This might be a lot easier than I originally thought, and it might be the push I need to be more aware about shopping local. Makes me feel good to do a little something good.

Small Victories.

My New Thing - Week 6

It just keeps getting more and more glamorous..

I'm completely addicted to the soaps from Bath and Body works, I went shopping over the weekend to replenish my stock and came across a new scent (flavor?) Black Rasberry Vanilla. It may not be new to Bath and Body Works but I've never noticed it, so it's new to me.. and I love it!

RandomMommy told me I could spin it as "Exotic Scent Exploration" to make it sound better.. I probably should have led with that, then maybe you wouldn't have fallen asleep during this post.

Wake Up!

The Great Sit N Spin Incident of 2010

We bought the girls a Sit n Spin for Christmas. It's hard to believe we didn't have one until now. I'm beginning to think my life expectancy has taken a hit thanks to the stress that this little F'er is causing me... Why? Because my wacked out completely normal children apparently think it would be better suited as a Stand N Spin. Do I even have to explain how this ends? Every. Single. Time?

"Ashley" feeling brave, got one foot on and the other foot almost on when it did what any good Sit N Spin is supposed to do, it spun. It went forward, she went backwards, her butt hit the handle/post part and the force of that hit threw her forward onto her face, sliding across the rug, we are awaiting confirmation of carpet burn.

Did she cry? Nope. She got right back up, looked at the foul toy with a "what the hell?" and went for it again. Her determination is almost admirable, if it weren't costing me a portion of my sanity, I think I would appreciate it.

What is wrong with my children?

My Silly Valentine.

Today is obviously a "snow day" here in the deep south. We got up early fully expecting school to be cancelled, which would have been a travesty since it was Valentine Party Day and we spent the afternoon yesterday finishing up our treat bags...

School was not cancelled, so off we went, then of course around 10am, the school called to let me know they were closing at 11am. Not bad, I thought. I'm sure they had just enough time to squeeze in the valentine swap... I sure hoped so because I was counting on something she was bringing home to be my afternoon snack... Yes, I steal my child's candy.. Sue me.

I was just going through her bag and her cute little cards from her friends, when I noticed the card that she made at school. On the outside it was stamped with the letters L, O, V, E - not in that order... On the inside, it said:

"Love Is.... My Mommy, My whole family, and "Buddha"

I imagine it looking something like this when we're not around...

Happy Valentines Day

My Kids are Trying to Kill Me... Send Help.

What a day. We went to the John Mayer concert last night (more to come on that later) Husband and I went to dinner had a couple of drinks before the concert and I'm so thankful now that I'm not having to conquer this day with a hangover... I wanted to drink more, but responsibility was ringing in my ear last night, or maybe it was the that Mommy 6th sense..

It's noon, the girls woke up late (well the twins did anyway.) I've been parenting all 3 girls for roughly 3 hours today and so far....

"Mary Kate" dipped her Cliff bar in the toilet, swished it around and ate probably more than I care to know of it before I realized what the "Dip Dip" was she was talking about.

Someone then dumped a cup of water, maybe toilet water on the floor in the bathroom

I stepped in it with both socked feet

"Mary Kate" was found standing in the middle of the kitchen table..... again.

"Mary Kate" almost succeeded in getting her head stuck between the spindle on the staircase banister...

"Ashley" pulled the handle off of the screen on the fireplace

"Ashley" pulled one of the drawers completely out of the side table - sending herself flying backwards coming dangerously close to busting her head on the marble fireplace.

All 3 girls fought for more than an hour over the ONE Tigger stuffed animal that we own and no one EVER plays with.... until today.

"Mary Kate" dumped a box of Cheerios on the floor

They have all been cranky and the twins are teething (2 year molars, I think) I have been cranky because, well... See above. I'm entitled.

My New Thing, Week 5

I had a couple of "New Things" to choose from this week, I decided to list the one that made me proud of my parenting skills!

I took all 3 of the girls to the park by myself. I’m really not a bad Mommy, I’ve taken them to the park before, but this time we went with no strollers, no wagons, no friends. It was just me, the girls and this very large play area. Luckily it wasn’t packed and I was able to manage a good 45 minutes before I thought I was going to have a panic attack. It was nice to prove to myself that I can do this whole parenting of multiples thing.

Well, You're Welcome Very Much...

Since the weather for the past couple of days has been warm not cold, I've been taking the girls out around lunchtime to let them play, get some fresh air and hopefully wear them out before naptime.

Yesterday, the Munchkin wanted to go on a bike ride, so I loaded the twins up in the wagon and off we went. We were going our usual route, around the block, nothing new, nothing tricky.

The street is pretty dead that time of day so I was letting the Munchkin have a little freedom to ride and she was having fun dodging all of the little gumball things that kept getting her wheels stuck. Just as she was making her left turn at the end of the street, she got a little uneven and started to tip over, she was headed face first to the pavement. In my haste to keep her from busting her face and teeth, I grabbed her with my closest hand which happened to be holding the garage door opener. In the process of saving her, her cheek caught the edge of the opener and scraped...

She wailed....

and wailed...

I picked her up and loved on her, asked her if she was ok, to which she replied, "Noooooooo, wahhhh... I'm not oooooookaaay!!! You scratched meeeeee" (maybe, but I also saved you, let's focus on the positive here, the neighbors are watching...)

I said I was sorry and that I was trying to save her from hurting herself on the pavement. To which she then replied.... "Next time don't try to save me"

Yeah? Well, you're welcome!

My New Thing - Week 4

This week might be completely dull and un-exciting to most, well, it really is compared to the past couple of weeks but hey, it's my life.

We have Taco Tuesday every week, and honestly, trying to come up with a way to make it different isn't always easy when you've maxed out, beef, chicken, and fish, or hard and soft, so I decided to seek an alternative and it was a definite win...

Without further ado, My New Thing for this week...

Tacos in Pasta Shells

12 ounces dried jumbo shell pasta
2 6-oz jars salsa
2 1/2 pounds of ground beef
6 ounces of cream cheese
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (6 ounces)
chopped tomato (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 350. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain. Rinse with cold water; drain again.

2. Meanwhile, divide about 1-cup of the salsa between two ungreased 2-quart rectangular baking dishes, spreading evenly. Set aside. In an extra-large skillet, cook ground meat over medium heat until brown. Drain fat. Stir in cream cheese and chili powder, cool slightly.

3. Spoon meat mixture into cooked pasta shells. Arrange filled shells on top of salsa in dishes. Tips with remaining salsa.

4. Bake, covered, for 15 minutes. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Bake, uncovered, for 15 minutes more or until heated through. If desired, sprinkle with tomato. Makes 12 servings.

And don't be shy, add sour cream, black beans, or any thing you like with your tacos, it's a great recipe for being creative!

It's super easy and super yummy!!
