Weight Loss Hiatus.

I've been on a bit of a fitness/weight loss hiatus the past couple of weeks, you may have noticed my lack of "obsessive every pound counts" posts here lately..

I gained a couple of pounds around New Year's, then it was my Birthday, then we went to NYC and now here we are, a whole month has gotten away from me and quite honestly, I don't really care! I've been enjoying eating crap, I haven't gained anymore weight, just haven't lost any either.

My plan is to start back next week, I know I could start today but, like I said, I just don't want to.. I kind of have to gear myself back up and get back in the right mind frame to want to do this, plus these hot right-out-of-the-oven turtle cookies and ice cold milk I'm having right now taste way too good to give up.. Get in my belly, nom nom nom nom nom....

My New Thing

So here we are, week 3. While it's not quite as glamorous as taking on New York City and seeing Martha Stewart, this week, Random Mommy and I conquered local television in a live interview on Talk of Alabama, on ABC 33/40

We were invited on to talk as "local blog experts" about our trip to see Martha, and about an awesome little segment we are doing each month on called the Juicebox Jukebox.

We weren't really prepped for the interview, we knew kind of what we were going to be talking about, but other than that, nada. I think we did a pretty good job considering my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest.

It was fun, we had a great time and can't wait to do it again!

Here's the clip in case you haven't seen it in any of the 100 places I have posted it already!

New York, Where do I Start?

This time last week, me and the besties had just finished up a taping of the Martha Stewart show where we were able to blog live from the audience. We love Martha, we try to channel her as much as possible so we were thrilled to be within spitting distance of the woman who knows everything about everything.

After the taping we hit the streets, our hotel was in Chelsea, the weather was nice and cooperative so we set out on foot, with urbanspoon in our hand looking for lunch. We found a great place called Cafeteria, trendy comfort food is the best description I have for this restaurant, it was good. Not like comfort food here in the South, but good nonetheless.

We did a lot of walking while we were there. We walked all over Chelsea, we shopped, we walked the Brooklyn Bridge, we ate, we shopped, we walked, saw the WTC site, SOHO, Times Square, we shopped, we ate, we walked, we saw Central Park, stopped by FAO Schwartz for goodies for our little people, we walked, we ate, we shopped, we stopped by Dylan's Candy store and stood in line for 30 minutes just to get a coke and a cupcake. It was good and since we walked and walked and walked and walked, we didn't feel so bad about the calories.

Cupcakes are big in NYC, we managed to get one from Dylans and Magnolia's, I was a strong advocate for a "cupcake off" during our stay, but it just didn't work out. Maybe next time!

Follow the lines (formerly Mommapeas) wanted to stalk Anthony Bourdain while we were there so we headed to his restaurant, Les Halles for dinner one night and it was AWE.SOME. He wasn't there but his presence was felt. All of the food we had while we were in the Big Apple was fantastic. If you want a great burger and fries, check out the Shake Shack. We had good sushi, and some great pizza, I just can't remember the name of the restaurants. For Italian we at at DaNico's, also fantastic...

Our time there was long because we missed our kids, but short when you consider all of the things we didn't get to, and of course, with Follow the Lines living away now, our airport goodbye was bittersweet.

It was a trip to remember and someting that will have to become an annual event. Probably not New York everytime, but somewhere for sure.

My New Thing.

Since I spent most of last week with RandomMommy and Mommapeas, in New York City we had a lot of firsts going on..

My New Thing(s) for this week was to attend the taping of a nationally syndicated talk show, "The Martha Stewart Show." It was awesome and really neat to see all that goes on on the set between the breaks.

Also a first for me was a ride up to the top of Rockefeller Center - "Top of the Rock." The view of the city was amazing! Not quite as high as the Empire State Building but impressive nonetheless.

Crazy is as Crazy Does.

On the way home from a very eventful mall trip, shopping for a few last minute things for my trip, with 3 kids in tow, I was mumbling under my breath to the dumbass tractor trailer that had been driving for 2 miles with his right turn signal on.

I gave him plenty of room to get in front of me, he wouldn't. I finally decided to pass him, when he decided to get into my lane. I cussed, mumbled and remembered I had kids in the car.

The Munchkin said: Mom, Who are you talking to?

Me: No one, baby.

Munchkin: But I heard you

Me: Heard me what?

Munchkin: Say Something

Me: Oh, well I was talking to the truck driver that tried to run us off the road

Munchkin: Who? Is that a stranger? We don't talk to strangers

Me: Oh, well he can't really hear me

Munchkin: Then why are you talking to him?

Me: I guess I was more talking to myself

Munchkin: Who talks to themselves?

Me: Crazy people

Munchkin: Did we make you a crazy person?

Oh, if they only knew!

My New Thing

My New Thing for this week is a fashion trend I've been refusing to embrace. Leggings. I'm not sure If I thought I was too old, not the right shape, or afraid of going against something that both Tim Gunn and Stacy London frown upon. I already have enough fashion "don'ts" in my closet to land me on a seasons worth of What Not To Wear....

At the encouragement of my friends I finally caved and bought a pair in black, and what can I say except that I absolutely LOVE. THEM. I have probably worn them 4 times in the past week. They are actually very practical for a Mom of 3, who knew? A long sweater, leggings and boots are almost (almost) as comfortable as my yoga pants!

This past week I celebrated my 35th birthday... I'm still not feeling the pressure of age, I have to say the biggest problem I think I have with this age is just saying 35, it sounds old some how. I don't feel it, but 35 sounds more than a year older than 34 - does that make sense? Anyway, my day was great, got my hair done, spent a little time shopping without the kids, husband brought dinner home and I got a cookie cake!

Friday Night we went out with some friends for dinner and drinks, and did I mention drinks? We stayed out until 4am, that's the second time this year that I have been up drinking until 4:00 in the morning. I can assure you that is not how this year is going to play out.... It's Sunday night and I'm still dehydrated and recovering. I will not be making this a habit.

Here are a few pictures from the celebration, notice the progression....

The Snow That Wasn't...

It's really not a big surprise to anyone that's been living here all of their lives.. The ingredients didn't quite come together to give us "Winter Storm 2010" as they predicted.

"Up to 3 inches" "icy patches" "snow bands moving across all day" Those were all things we've been hearing about for days.. and guess what? Nada.

Ok, maybe not nada, we did get some bands of snow and it was pretty, but at 37 degrees did they really think it was going to stick? I'm not a meteorologist but it was pretty clear to me that it was just going to fall and melt, and so it did.

Schools closed early and there was absolutely no way in the world to hide the possibility of this snow from the kids, as it was snowing off and on all day, but waiting for our 1/2" to 1" proved painful as the day worn on.

I believe this picture sums up the attitude of our house, if you can see, the Munchkin actually has her arms crossed in a very huffy manner after looking out of the window for the 1,463,oo4 time.

52 New Things! is teaming up with Birmingham Bargain Mom to blog about what we are doing new in this new year..

With the movie Julie and Julia as our inspiration,
we thought it would be fun to make ourselves try something new each week for the entire year.

It doesn't always have to be something big. It can be a book, a recipe, lipstick or hair color. The options for trying new things are truly endless.

Each Tuesday we will take to our blogs/Facebook/Twitter and tell what we have done that week, what we liked or didn't like about it and if we would do it again or recommend it to others.

Do you blog, twitter or facebook? Join in. We would love to have you participate and see what everyone is doing. Grab that cool picture up there, add it to your blog and find something new to do this week.

If you have been reading my blog for a year now, Thank you and you will know that I typically refrain from making resolutions... I don't ever see much point in waiting until January 1 to change something you can change on April 8th, if you need to.

This year, I thought what the heck, I'll do a few and see if they stick..

I, I'm a Mom!??! resolve for 2010 to:

  • Clean behind the twins ears more thoroughly, it's amazing how much gunk can build up behind there without the proper attention.
  • Shave my legs more. This will also require me to shower more, so it most likely won't happen.
Last but not least.

  • I resolve to use the term/phrase "Shark Farts" as often as possible.

Happy Happy New Year to you all! I hope you have a wonderful 2010!!
