A Concept Lost On Me....

Close to where we live a pizza place called Papa Murphy's just opened. If you aren't familiar with the concept, its a take and bake place. Fresh pizza, built to suit, only you have to pick it up and cook it yourself.

Husband and I have pondered this concept for a couple of weeks. Why would you want to cook your own pizza after having to drive and pick it up? It just doesn't seem practical when we can call, order, and have it delivered piping hot to our door. We just didn't see a time in which we would explore this possibility..... Until recently. The Munchkin and I went to get our nails done and the pizza place was just across the parking lot so I thought, why not? We popped in, the place was clean, small, the people were friendly. We even met the owner who was super nice and thanked us several times for trying them out. As they made my pizza, a la Subway style, behind the glass, choose your ingredients, I kept thinking, maybe this will work. Everything looked so fresh. Then it hit me, maybe the secret is to have the best damn ingredients come together to make this incredible pizza, a pizza like none you've ever tasted, that must be the catch, it's slap yo' Mama in the face good.

Only.. it's not. I cooked it perfectly (thanks to the tutorial the nice guy gave me as we left) but it just wasn't good pizza. CPK from the freezer section at Publix trumps this, which brings me back around to, what the heck? I just don't get it. Why would I go to all the trouble for a mediocre pie? Am I missing something? Or maybe just lazy?

Color me perplexed.

I take pizza very seriously. I'm on a mission to find good pizza in this town, and having to cook it myself is not going to win me over to any pie. Good luck to them with their new business. :-(
