Feeling the Need...

I've had many conversations lately with family, friends and acquaintances, regarding my political views and how they seem to be more liberal than they used to be. I do believe that over the last couple of years I have become less conservative in my beliefs, but I assure you that the Democratic party would not claim me. Although still registered as one, I don't consider myself a Republican either. I can't imagine them welcoming me into their fold as I preach about bringing our troops home, and healthcare reform. I'm a lost soul in the political world, I feel the need to support the person that I think will do the best job... In my eyes, and with issues that I feel are important.

Recently I have made some comments regarding McCain's choice for VP. A woman. How progressive of Mr McCain, to pick a woman. Take it at face value and it probably does look progressive. However, a woman who's anti-abortion and anti-gay rights only stands to set us back decades as a country, and as women.

To be clear!!! I am PRO-LIFE, always have been. I have been a member of the pro-life coalition since I was in highschool, I have marched, and supported this cause whole heartedly. Lately though, I'm realizing more and more that just because this is the way that I feel, does not mean I need to tell you what to do and I certainly don't want the Government involved in any decision I make when it comes to my body or the child that I carry. Palin is so anti abortion that she wants to make it illegal even in extreme cases of rape and incest... something that I have always used as my exceptions. Can you imagine, a 13 year old that is the product of incest and forced to carry the baby to term because the Government says she has to?

I do not appreciate being painted as a murderer or baby killer because my opinions don't match up with others, and I have news for all of those that are extremely conservative on this issue, abortion is nothing new, it was going on way before there were activists to fight it, only they were being done in back alleys with coat hangers. IN. AMERICA. People say that they are proud to be Americans, they love the freedom of choice, only they stand to elect a person that will take those freedoms away from some, and heaven forbid you be gay. No rights for you whatsoever. Will Palin try to overturn your civil unions and marriages?

I want to live my life to the best of my ability, I want to raise my children to be open minded, strong and determined. I don't want to play god and tell you how to live your life. I want to mind my own business, and have no intention of trying to impose my beliefs on you, and under the circumstances neither should our Government.

I will never fault someone for their beliefs no matter how different they are from mine, I will always fault someone for being so closed minded that they won't even take a second to hear the other side of the argument.

I'm the same way... my views have really evolved over the past few years. My kid goal is right along yours... open-mindedness is a necessity!

And it just kills me that a minority (female) would not be more supportive of other minorities (gays, etc)! She should know how it feels...

It's about time I started reading "grown-up" political views. Kudos!

I'm right there with you. I feel less and less like I fit either label. I'd love Sarah Palin for her kickass-ness and tenacity if not for her views on gun-control and abortion.

What are we to do...
